I'm David Keith, founder of Bluenose Residence, along with my wife Joanne. My family has deep roots in Bluenose history: my great-grandfather owned the Lunenburg, Nova Scotia shipyard that built the original Bluenose schooner. After watching too many Canadians struggle to afford a dignified retirement at home, we set out to build something different, a community where your pension actually stretches far enough to live well.
For many Canadians, the math simply doesn't work anymore. The average combined CPP and OAS payout is around CAD 1,608 a month, while CAD 1,700 to 2,400 a month is considered the poverty line depending on where you live. At Bluenose, that same pension covers your studio, meals, and a community of fellow Canadians, with enough left over to actually enjoy retirement.
Bluenose Residence is for Canadians whose pension doesn't stretch as far as they'd hoped, who still want an active, independent, adventure-filled retirement rather than a quiet wind-down. Many of our residents split their time between Canada and Cambodia, using our three-month and six-month options. We're not a nursing home. This is for people who are healthy and want to make the most of their retirement years.
We are located in the busy tourist city of Siem Reap, Cambodia.
Yes, Cambodia is very safe, especially for foreigners.
Yes. The Angkor Archaeological Park attracts more than 1 million tourists a year, and Siem Reap is growing quickly as one of the most affordable retirement destinations for expats worldwide.
Siem Reap offers a rare combination: rich culture, a warm climate, a welcoming and growing expat community, and a cost of living that makes a comfortable retirement genuinely affordable. It's also home to the Angkor Archaeological Park, one of the most visited destinations in Southeast Asia, so there's no shortage of adventure right outside your door.
Usually within 24 hours, whether by appointment or house call.

Yes, a nurse is on call for an additional fee.
Siem Reap has a dozen medical centers and hospitals. We recommend carrying emergency medical insurance, combined with a “pay as you need” approach for everyday healthcare, dental, and medication.
It's a fair question, and honestly, yes, it's something I think about. That's exactly why we built Bluenose around fast access to care: doctor visits and house calls typically within 24 hours, and specialty services like MRI and X-ray also within 24 hours. I plan to retire here myself one day, so I want the same peace of mind I'm asking our residents to trust us with.
